You really need to see and hold this Bowl to appreciate its beauty. These bowls can take up to a day to make in the East African Trading workshop in Uganda. The horn is cut and flattened and then heated in hot oil and shaped by hand time and time again until these lovely fluid lines are achieved.
The Bowl is perfect for your leafy green salad leaves or piled high with colourful fruits. Why not team it with either our Salad Servers for a perfect gift.
Care – Handwash in lukewarm water and dry. Not dishwasher safe.Size – Approximately 40cm x 28cm but shapes and colours vary.
These truly ethical and individual items of homeware from the East African Trading Company are produced from the huge horns from the magnificent Ankole cows. These cows are often seen on the road-sides of Uganda, being herded by young boys. Their horns normally ended up as a by-product and burnt as waste. In making beautiful products from these horns, the East African Trading Company has provided local farmers with an additional source of income from their cattle.
East African Trading works directly with a local family run business and a team of talented artisans, designing and producing an amazing range of accessories – straight from the Equator to your home. The company works hard to remain loyal to Uganda and strives to support small Ugandan businesses. They source locally where we can; their fabulous banana leaf packaging is made by a small company on the Entebbe Road employing predominately women.
This is a beautiful and quality range. Please note that due to natural variances of colour in the cow horn, no two items are identical.
